The sheet, which belonged to the collection of Giuseppe Vallardi (1784-1861), was purchased by the Musée du Louvre in 1856.

 

Some scholars attribute the drawing to Pisanello, i.e. Antonio Pisano (Pisa or Verona, by 1394-Rome?, 1455), son of Puccio di Giovanni.
