Originally, it was part of the wooden stalls of the choir of the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio in Milan.
Today, the backrest decorates a single, isolated wooden stall, used as the celebrant's liturgical seat in the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio in Milan.
