The Books of hours belonged to Alessandro VII (Fabio Chigi; Siena, 13/02/1599-22/05/1667), Pope from 07/04/1655.

According to some scholars, the miniatures have also been attributed either to the Master of the Chantilly Treatise on Falconry or to Master of the Horoscope. The Master of the Chantilly Treatise on Falconry (Maestro del Trattato di Falconeria di Chantilly/Maître du Traité de chasse de Chantilly) was active in Milan in the third decade of the 14th century. The Master of the Chantilly Treatise on Falconry takes its name from the manuscript Chantilly, Musée Condé, ms. 368. The Master of the Horoscope (Maître de l'Horoscope) could be the creator of the illuminated decoration (1461) of the Liber iudiciorum of Gasparo da Vimercate (Milan, Archivio storico civico e Biblioteca trivulziana, Triv. 1329), which belonged to Galeazzo Maria Sforza (Fermo, 14/01/1444-Milan, 26/12/1476), Duke of Milan from 1466. The Master of the Horoscope may have been active in Milan around 1460.
